Leather or PU, which weights to stock, padding and closures, and how to sample before a bulk boxing glove order.
Boxing gloves are one of the most common first products for fitness and combat-sports brands. Before you contact a manufacturer, decide who the gloves are for and which choices you need to make. This guide walks through them.

Decide who the gloves are for
- Fitness and boxercise: lighter, lower-cost gloves for classes and gym retail.
- Bag gloves: built for heavy-bag and pad work.
- Training and sparring: all-round gloves; heavier weights are used for sparring.
The customer decides the material, padding and price point, so settle it first.
Leather or PU?
Genuine leather feels premium, lasts longer and suits higher price points. PU synthetic leather costs less, offers consistent colours and finishes, and suits fitness and entry ranges. Many brands use both: PU for the fitness line and leather for the premium line.

Which weights to stock
Gloves are sold by weight in ounces, commonly from about 8 oz up to 16 oz. Lighter gloves suit bag work and smaller hands; heavier gloves are used for sparring. A starter range often covers two to four weights. Check the demand in your own market before deciding.
Padding and construction
Padding is usually layered foam. The number of layers and the foam density change feel and protection. Ask for samples of each padding option and test them on a bag. Only make protection or safety claims you can document; if a competition or market requires a standard, include it in your brief.
Closures
Hook-and-loop straps are quick and suit gyms. Laces give a closer fit and are popular for premium gloves.
