How clubs, schools, AAU and youth leagues can specify custom basketball uniforms — reversible construction, fabric, sizing and bulk-order requirements.
Custom basketball uniforms have one specification decision that doesn't come up for most other team sports: whether the jersey needs to be reversible. Beyond that, basketball uniform sourcing follows the same discipline as any team kit order — define the use case, fabric and sizing before choosing artwork. This guide complements our custom basketballs guide, which covers the ball rather than what players wear.

Reversible or standard: decide this first
Reversible jerseys — printed or sublimated on both sides in two different colourways — are common for practice squads that scrimmage internally, letting one set of jerseys serve as both "light" and "dark" teams without a separate order. Game-day jerseys are usually single-sided, since a team typically only needs one colourway visible at a time during competition. Decide which your squad actually needs before requesting a quote, since reversible construction changes the fabric and print approach.
Fabric: breathability is the priority
Basketball is a high-intensity, continuous-running sport played indoors, so breathable mesh fabric is standard for basketball jerseys — more open-weave than a typical soccer jersey fabric, prioritising airflow over wind resistance since indoor play doesn't need weather protection. Shorts typically use a similar or slightly heavier moisture-wicking polyester with enough structure to hold shape through repeated jumping and lateral movement.
Sizing and cuts to plan for
- Standard adult cut — the default for most club and high-school-level teams
- Youth sizing — if the programme spans multiple age groups, split quantities by size rather than ordering one total
- Women's-specific cut — a different fit through the shoulders and torso than a standard men's cut, worth specifying explicitly rather than assuming a smaller men's size will fit correctly
Customization: team name, sponsor and player numbering
Basketball jerseys typically carry large player numbers on both front and back, plus a team name or crest — confirm placement and size for all three before production, since basketball jersey layouts are more standardised than other sports and a design that doesn't follow the expected convention can look visibly off. Send vector artwork for any crest or sponsor logo.
What to include in a basketball uniform RFQ
- Reversible or standard single-sided construction
- Squad size and age groups, with quantities split by size
- Cut: standard, youth or women's-specific
- Fabric preference: mesh weight and breathability requirement
- Team name, crest, sponsor artwork and numbering placement
- Sample requirement and approval process
- Destination and required delivery date
What to check on the sample
For a reversible jersey, check both sides independently — colour accuracy, print sharpness and that the reversal doesn't create a visible ghosting of the opposite side's design through the fabric. For any basketball jersey, check the mesh fabric's stretch recovery after a real training session, since a mesh that loses its shape under repeated movement will look baggy well before the rest of the kit wears out.
