The International Handball Federation (IHF) defines several official ball sizes used across age groups and competitions — broadly, a smaller size for children, a mid-size for women's and youth play, and a larger size for adult men's competition. Confirm the exact size your league, school or association requires before ordering; do not assume one size fits every squad in a multi-age programme.

Grip matters more for handball than most ball sports
Handball is played with the hand controlling and throwing the ball at speed, so surface grip is a bigger specification factor than for a foot-played sport like soccer. Cover texture and any tack-enhancing treatment should be evaluated against how the ball will actually be used — indoor court conditions, training frequency, and whether players use resin or grip aids that interact with the ball's surface.
Cover and construction options
Handballs are typically covered in synthetic leather or genuine leather, with a bladder and lining construction similar in principle to a basketball or volleyball — panel count, backing layers and bladder type all affect grip, bounce consistency and durability. Ask for a specification sheet rather than relying on marketing terms like "match quality" alone.
Training vs. match specification
A training ball ordered for repeat, high-frequency use has different durability priorities than a match ball ordered for occasional competitive play. State your intended use clearly in the quote request so the manufacturer can recommend a construction suited to it, rather than defaulting to one generic configuration.
Custom branding for handballs
Club crest, school or academy logo, sponsor marks or tournament artwork can be applied to your approved specification. Because a handball's surface is both curved and grip-textured, request a placement mockup before a physical sample — fine text or detailed artwork can lose clarity on a textured surface the same way it can on a basketball or volleyball.
